Actress Iulia Verdes,

RUF Ambassador, says "Hello"

"I chose Romanian United Fund because we share the same values and principles. RUF connects worlds, maintains emotions, and removes borders for Romania."

Born and raised in Bucharest, Romania, Iulia gave her first acting performances for theater and TV while she was still in high school. At 18 she made her acting debut in cinema with the film Elevator (Romania, 2008), being cast in the main role.

Throughout her years of study and beyond, Iulia enriched her experience as an actress and took part in a wide variety of projects, representing Romania at prestigious international programs such as Sarajevo Talent Campus 2012 and Generation Campus (Moscow) 2013.

September is "Education Month"

Improve the quality of Education in Romania by supporting any one of our 6 Education Partners

See how these amazing organizations change education and change the world, one child at a time.

“The student and the law” provides printed guides and teaches 5,000 high school students about their interactions with the Law - Vedem Just.

“Home for Good” supports 7 scholarships for highly valuable diaspora teachers to come home and become part of the Romanian educational system for one year - Teach for Romania.

“Roma S/heroes” will put 10,000 illustrated books in the hands of children, in order to teach them about the history and geography of the Roma population - Cu Alte Cuvinte.

“Generation Centers” brings together 800 children from disadvantaged communities and 160 senior people from senior homes in a series of mentoring groups, clubs, training and workshops - Fundatia Regala Margareta.

"Debate Clubs in Small Cities" will fund 10 Debate Clubs in small cities and underprivileged schools in Romania, that will have a minimum of 15 club meetings per year and at least 90 students recruited - ARDOR.

“Learn to Succeed” provides after-school programs, materials, and financial support for 315 children (6-15 years old) at high risk of poverty, social exclusion, and school dropout - United Way Romania.

#PlayForGood Update

169 children with severe conditions have visited 5 Magic Summer Camps so far.

Together with Asociaţia Magic, we promised a summer full of joy for families with special kids and we did it but only with your help, implication, and donations and now the numbers for the last month’s campaign Play4Good are in!

90 kids were approved by their doctors and were able to join 8-day sessions, while 79 kids were able to join shorter 1-3 day sessions. Places like National Theater, Therme, Maramures, Straja, Dâmbovicioara were full of joy and happiness for these kids.

The Romanian American National Heritage Award is an annual competition for youth with Romanian heritage or background. Applicants of non-Romanian descent may qualify, as long as their work and experience relate to Romania or the Romanian community in the US.
Presented by the American Romanian Cultural Society, Alianta, and Romanian United Fund, with the endorsement of the Embassy of Romania to the United States

The Mission and Purpose of the award are to recognize exceptional contributions to the cohesion of the Romanian community and the preservation of its heritage, language, culture, and traditions.

June 30 - Submission of Applications Opens
September 30 - Submission of Applications Closes
October 15 - Winners Announced
November 18 - Award Ceremony at the Alianța Gala in Washington DC

The Online School

It's September, and it’s back to school for all of us parents! RUF knows that children are the future, which is why we are committed to investing in them! We are launching The Online School, to share education and inspire our community to connect, get involved, and invest in the young generation by teaching.

#MindYourHealth Campaign Update

At RUF the month of July was dedicated to healthcare through the #rufmindyourhealth campaign. Two of our partner organizations participated with their individual projects.

Daruieste Viata with Together for a chance at childhood and Caravana cu Medici launched the first Romanian pilot project for screening colorectal cancer.
