My name is Carina and I’m reaching out on behalf of the Romanian short film that I am producing, DOR. We are currently looking to cast a role and, given your organization’s background and mission that tie in so well with the goals of this film, our team thought we might have some luck in reaching out to you for help with our search.
Film & Role Overview
DOR is a narrative short film about a Romanian family living in Queens, NY that, with a loved one’s life on the line in the homeland, confronts the cost of moving to America in poetic slow-burn. The story centers the long-term emotional & lived consequences of the choice to immigrate. The director’s own experiences drive our sensorial approach, which serves to subvert typical portrayals of immigrant narratives.
We are currently casting the
GRANDMOTHER role (65+), which is a paid role. The person does not need any acting experience — they just need to speak fluent Romanian. It would be one day (or less) of filming. The grandmother appears in a short scene at the very beginning of the film for a WhatsApp call with her son, so we’d be filming on an actual phone. Ideally, this individual would be based somewhere in or close by New York City where the team is based, but we can also coordinate to make a remote filming situation possible if they are based elsewhere.
The film is supported by the Romanian Cultural Institute and we have also been working closely with film partners in Romania.
