Lights on Democracy mobilized Romania’s diaspora to fund Rădăuțiul Civic, Funky Citizens, and Declic, which monitored the May 2025 elections and informed voters, turning global concern into local action for a fair, resilient democracy.

Details:

Through the Romanian Diaspora Funding Network, we partnered with eight communities—London, Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid, Bruxelles, Helsinki, Milano, and Chicago—hosting local events and an online fundraiser that directed support to election monitoring and voter information in Romania.

Impact: Mobilizing Diaspora for Democratic Resilience

Strengthened election integrity and civic literacy: Rădăuțiul Civic delivered 25 workshops for 300 first-time voters; Funky Citizens trained and equipped independent observers (toward a 2,000 target); Declic produced concise, factual news updates to counter misinformation and inform the electorate.
