"We all came here, immigrants, right?

And we were overwhelmed and we wanted a place where we can belong, a place where we can meet people like us, with the same values, same culture, same experiences. I think that's a very powerful reason.

I met people that moved to Chicago, that didn't know anyone. I would love to send them to the Community Center and tell them look, this is what they have, you can meet people there, you can make connections ... You have your own place where you feel like home, you feel like you belong. It's very tough.

When I came here I went to church a lot ... the youth community had tournaments, they had things that they would do toghether. I needed a place to belong. So that was very important to me, that I found this group of young people that were doing things together, that had events together. I think this is one reason that anybody could identify with, anybody. Because we all went through the same hardships." - Miruna Zamfirescu, Chicago, Sep 2021
