On March 8, ten students from the International Theoretical High School of Computer Science in Bucharest (ICHB) stood in front of a national jury, ran their autonomous robot through a 2.5-minute mission sequence, and walked away with First Place and the Grand Champion Trophy at the FIRST LEGO League Romania 2026 national finals.
Meet Quantum Bits - amazing kids are aged 11 to 16, mentored by Mihai Popescu, who build and program robots in their school club after hours. Romania will be in the room.
Next Stop for Quantum Bits - Houston
That result earns them a spot at the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas - the largest educational robotics event on the planet - taking place April 29 to May 2, 2026.
This is exactly the kind of story RUF exists to celebrate - and act on!Β
We're launching a $5,000 fundraising campaign to cover the team's travel, accommodation, and competition costs in Houston.
Every dollar raised goes directly to Quantum Bits.
The competition season theme, UNEARTHED, challenges participants to use technology to discover and protect cultural heritage - a subject that hits close to home for anyone who cares about where Romania's story goes next.
These students are representing a generation of Romanians who build things, solve problems, and carry the flag with skill, not sentiment.
