A Visit to Copăceni: A Place of Healing, Love, and Strength

On December 1, 2024, our dedicated volunteer project team visited Copăceni, where a new Palliative Care Hospital with integrated services for children is taking shape. Their experience reflects the incredible impact of the RUF community and the power of collective action. We’re excited to share their insights and emotions from this visit - a testament to what we can achieve together.

Walking through the gates of Copăceni, our colleagues Dragos, Beatrice, and Robert were immediately struck by a mix of emotions. The serene atmosphere of this special place contrasted sharply with the profound challenges faced by the children and families who rely on its care. Copăceni is not just a medical facility; it is a sanctuary of love, strength, and support for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

More Than Just Medical Care

One of the most unexpected and moving realizations during the visit was how deeply the care at Copăceni extends beyond medical treatments. The facility not only provides palliative care for children, but it also embraces their families, offering much-needed emotional and psychological support.

Parents are not just visitors; they are active participants in the healing process. Therapy sessions, both individual and group-based, help them navigate the overwhelming emotional weight of their children’s conditions. Mothers and fathers sit beside their little ones, coloring, drawing, and sharing moments of quiet connection, small but powerful acts of love and resilience.

A Place of Strength and Hope

Despite the challenges, Copăceni radiates an undeniable sense of hope. The dedication of the staff, the warmth of the volunteers, and the unwavering love of the families create an environment where, even in the most difficult circumstances, life is celebrated.

Yet, the need for more resources and expanded facilities is urgent. The demand for palliative care in Romania far exceeds the available services, leaving many families without the support they desperately need. That’s why the Romanian United Foundation is committed to building a new Palliative Care Hospital with integrated services at Copăceni.
