Romanian United Fund announces through a press release that in the Fall 2022 session it received two financing lines from DRP Romania (Department of Romanians Abroad, under the Ministry of External Affairs).
ROMANIAN UNITED FUND RECEIVED THE LARGEST FUNDING AWARDED BY THE DEPARTMENT FOR ROMANIANS EVERYWHERE IN 2022
Chicago, October 10, 2022 – Romanian United Fund (“RUF”) received the largest funding offered in 2022 by the Department for Romanians Everywhere (“DRP”), in a total amount of 398,000 lei. The amount was granted to RUF for the initiation and development of the "Monitor of Solidarity of Romanians in the USA" and "Educational Center of Excellence for Romanians in the Chicago Region" projects.
The "Educational Center of Excellence for Romanians in the Chicago Region" project received the largest DRP funding in 2022, amounting to 320,000 lei. The project represents an effort by RUF to promote education among the Romanian community in the Chicago region by providing free* courses in the Romanian language, mathematics, programming, and investing in the stock market. The program is a flagship program for the center of the Romanian community in Chicago, the Romanian Community Center (“ROCO”).
Mihai Lehene, founder and president of RUF, said: "We are pleased to see that, although we live so far from home, we still have Romania's support. For us, the development of the relationship with the country is always in the foreground, and this sponsorship proves to us once again that the interest is mutual. The main goals of the ROCO community center, the first of its kind for the Romanian community in the US, are education, preservation of the Romanian language and culture, business success and personal development, and serving all the needs of the local Romanian community. Hundreds of Chicago families are co-funding the center and will benefit from the services provided here, and this funding provides us with sufficient funds to complete the center and operate it for a good period of time."
* Note: as of January 2023, while courses are still free for all RUF and ROCO members, registration processing costs $100.
