We, the undersigned Romanian diaspora organizations, express our profound concern over recent reports of foreign interference in Romania’s electoral process. Findings from Romania’s Supreme Council for National Defense (CSAT) point to malign cyber activities attributed to foreign actors intended to compromise the integrity of the democratic process. These actions undermine Romania’s sovereignty and threaten its role as a strong member of the European Union and NATO and a valued partner in the Transatlantic alliance.

Romania’s democracy is a testament to its resilience and commitment to European and democratic values. As global organizations and stakeholders invested in democracy, transparency, and the rule of law, we call on Romanian authorities to take immediate and decisive action to protect these principles.

We urge the Romanian government to:

1. Conduct a Comprehensive Investigation: Fully investigate the allegations of foreign interference, ensure accountability for any actors involved, and provide the public with clear and transparent findings.
2. Fortify Democratic Infrastructure: Implement enhanced safeguards for electoral systems and democratic institutions to prevent future vulnerabilities and foreign influence.
3. Engage with Stakeholders: Actively involve civil society, diaspora communities, and international partners in efforts to uphold electoral integrity and bolster democratic resilience.

We further appeal to the international community to stand in solidarity with Romania during this critical time, supporting its efforts to combat threats to its democracy and maintain its steadfast commitment to the Transatlantic alliance.
