The Excellence Centre recognizes the immense talent and potential within Romanian diaspora communities. By connecting young people with experienced mentors and offering engaging programs, we aim to inspire the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to support Romanian children in preserving and celebrating their cultural and linguistic heritage, while also preparing them for success in an increasingly competitive world. This initiative serves as a hub for education and community involvement, fostering volunteerism and providing community members with the tools they need to support the growth and development of future generations.

As the year draws to a close, we celebrate the addition of five new vibrant Romanian communities - Gatineau, Burlington, Las Vegas, West Lawn (Pennsylvania), and Los Angeles - that have embraced the mission of preserving Romanian culture and language through RUF's educational initiatives. Each of these communities has creatively adapted the Excellence Centre model to meet their local needs with passion and dedication.

  • In Gatineau, a classroom was transformed into a welcoming space complete with new flooring, furniture, and learning materials. This revitalized space now hosts Romanian language lessons for children, as well as reading clubs for both kids and parents, fostering a sense of intergenerational learning.
  • Burlington introduced a 20-week online reading club for kids across Canada, combining Romanian literature with fun incentives like book raffles. The overwhelming response, with all spots filled immediately, speaks to the community’s eagerness to share and celebrate Romanian storytelling.
  • In Las Vegas, our Romanian language curriculum has been intricately crafted and delivered in collaboration with our dedicated partners at Together To Help. These engaging classes, meticulously designed to accommodate a diverse range of participants spanning all ages and backgrounds, foster a dynamic and inclusive environment where individuals can immerse themselves in the nuances and vibrancy of Romanian culture.
  • West Lawn responded to an overwhelming interest in language lessons by creating two separate groups for different age ranges. Starting on October 19, kids will enjoy personalized education in a bright and well-prepared environment.
  • Los Angeles saw the formation of a new nonprofit organization that worked tirelessly to establish language classes for children, beginning with a small but promising group at a local church.

These initiatives demonstrate that preserving Romanian culture and language abroad is not only possible but thriving with passion and collaboration. Whether through reading clubs, interactive classes, or community events, these projects ensure that Romanian heritage continues to thrive in the diaspora.

Congratulations to these five communities for their incredible progress and commitment to keeping Romanian culture alive!
