“Lights on Democracy” London Reception Illuminates Commitment to Romanian Democracy

London, UK - The Romanian Diaspora Funding Network (RDFN), in collaboration with the Romanian United Foundation (RUF) and the Romanian Funding Network - London, successfully hosted the "Lights on Democracy" Reception at the Ratiu Family Charitable Foundation in London. This event marked a significant milestone in rallying support for democratic initiatives in Romania.​

The evening commenced with the captivating "Timeless Opera" concert, featuring performances by soprano Zoltan Adrienn Viviene and tenor Alin Stoica, setting an elegant tone for the gathering. Following the concert, attendees engaged in insightful discussions on advancing democratic values and transparency within Romania's electoral processes.​ A special guest was renowned artist Alexandru Radu Popescu, Fine Art Photographer - who generously donated his breathtaking artwork Beyond the Limits, as part of the silent auction held during the event.

Distinguished guests included thought leaders, RDFN and RUF representatives, and members of the Romanian diaspora who learned more about key civic organizations such as Funky Citizens, Rădăuțiul Civic, and Declic. These organizations are at the forefront of promoting transparent and accountable electoral practices in Romania.​

Attendees expressed a renewed dedication to supporting Romania's democratic development. The event highlighted the critical role of civic organizations and showcased the power of cultural and intellectual exchange in driving social change.​

What Is the “Lights on Democracy” Initiative?

The "Lights on Democracy" fundraising campaign aims to raise €30,000 to support these organizations in their efforts to monitor the upcoming Romanian presidential elections in May 2025. Funds will be allocated to organize independent election observers, conduct public awareness campaigns, and combat misinformation. This initiative underscores the Romanian diaspora's commitment to fostering democratic resilience and civic engagement in their home country.​
