Today, we’re highlighting two extraordinary individuals whose dedication, vision, and heart exemplify the spirit of all RUF volunteers: Karina Ghete and Sorina Tira.

Karina Ghete - Building Belonging, Leading with Purpose 🌍✨

Based in New York, Karina joined RUF in January 2025 and immediately became a driving force behind our Student Ambassador Program within GlobalRomania. Karina leads initiatives, builds bridges, sparks inspiration, and creates a sense of belonging for Romanian students across the globe.

Karina says it best herself: “What I like most about RUF is the sense of belonging. It truly feels like a second family to me. From the moment I became involved, I’ve felt supported, valued, and encouraged to grow, both personally and professionally.”

Her work reminds us that “home” isn’t just a place. It’s a community we nurture together. Karina’s energy, leadership, and heart make RUF a place where every student feels seen, empowered, and ready to thrive.

Sorina Tira - Purpose, Vision, and Community in Action 🌟

From Chicago, Sorina Tira serves as the Secretary of the RUF Board of Directors and Board Liaison, playing a pivotal role in connecting leadership and building bridges across our growing global diaspora network. She’s also a key part of the organizing team behind the Romanian Community Summit, where voices unite for Romania’s future.

Sorina’s journey with RUF began with a simple desire to give back - and blossomed into a life-changing commitment to a purpose-driven community. She says: “RUF isn’t just an organization - it’s a living, breathing community built on hope, generosity, and action. It connects people who care deeply about Romania’s future, even from thousands of miles away. That’s powerful!”

Whether supporting education, democracy, or projects like Via Transilvanica, Sorina’s vision and integrity shine through in every initiative. She embodies what makes volunteering with RUF so transformative: the chance to grow, give, and make a real difference.
