Romanian United Fund raised over $100,000 from the Romanian community in Chicago and throughout the United States. 100% of the money raised will be directed towards Via Transilvanica project, a 1,000-km hiking route linking Putna (in Suceava) to Drobeta-Turnu Severin.

August 2020 Update: we have assigned milestone ids to every one of our donors. If you have purchased a milestone but not yet received your voucher, please reach out as soon as possible, we are here to help. If you made a donation as part of a group, please make sure you speak with your friends and see if anyone else in the group has received/has been assigned your voucher.
February 2020 Update: we expect the website that will allow you to choose the location of your milestone to be delivered in the second quarter of 2020 (April or May).
Yes, currently (early 2020), you can still purchase your own milestone. Your donation is tax-deductible if made through the Romanian United Fund.
Yes, your donation is tax-deductible. We have applied for our 501c3 status and we should receive it by March or April 2020.
Yes, you should have received a receipt for your tax-deductible donation in early January 2020. If you have not received one, we may not have your proper contact information. Please email us at [email protected] with your contact information and we will promptly reply. Thank you
On the Via Transilvanica website, in the first quarter of 2020, you should be able to view, select, and save the location of your own milestone. Depending on the location, you may already be able to "see" your milestone (if it's already been installed), or you may have to wait. The entire project (1,000 kilometers) is expected to be completed in the second part of 2021.
Early in 2020 (January/February), the website for selecting the location of milestones should come online. As soon as that happens, the process will be a little bit more clear, and a RUF volunteer will reach out to you for collecting and double-checking the names you already submitted.
No, the names are not written on the milestone itself. Names will be listed on the "Donor's Walk", near Piatra Fantanele (Parcul National Calimani), in Bistrita. For each milestone purchased, there will be one large stone in the ground, that will have your names on. It's a very beautiful area, you will love it. Your name will also be listed on the phone application that will be delivered in the course of 2020. You will be able to "see" your milestone, and your name listed next to it on the app. You will also be able to write a little story about yourself, your family, or what inspired you to make a donation.
You can write up to 15 names for anyone stone (one for each milestone) and on the phone app that will be used to travel on Via Transilvanica.
Update August 2020: We have reached out to every known person and/or group of people that have made a donation to Via Transilvanica. If you have not received a call, it is possible we don't have your information, please reach out to us as soon as possible, we are here to help.
Update March 2020: As soon as the website is delivered (Q2/2020), we will start collecting individual information that you can post on the app and on the Donor's Walk. You may be able to personalize that yourself through the website, once it is available.
Please write to us at [email protected] We will answer as promptly as possible. Thank you for your understanding and for being part of the Romanian United Fund community.
